Nature Play at JessieLand - Week 2!

This week at the JessieLand we...

  • Went on nature walks and exlored the dried up stream
  • Roasted marshmellows by the fire
  • Started to break song dead logs
  • Celebrated a camper's birthday
  • Climbed MORE trees
  • Pretended to be animals and played family
  • Weaved with sticks and bark
  • Listened to the rain and wind change pace
  • Saw some Breakwater "big kids" practicing nature survival skills 
  • Sound clay in the river
  • Splashed in the stream when it rained
  • Made and took home nature journals

This is the way we start our day

This week at the JessieLand we...

  • balanced on logs
  • went on a rocket ship
  • pretended the log was a horse
  • played with sticks and added to forts
  • made fairy houses
  • built chairs and sitting spaces
  • went to the stream and found deer tracks
  • climbed trees
  • saw a squirrel eating a pine cone
  • did pile work
  • played with pine sap (or pine pitch)
  • made a pretend fire and a sitting circle
  • roasted pretend (leaf) marshmallows (hopefully real ones next week!)

Birds and Songs- Week 2!

This week discovering Birds and Songs we..

  • decorated paper eggs
  • made giant nests
  • played family and bird flocks
  • turned into birds with beaks and feathers
  • made binoculars and monoculars

  • played in the tunnel and the "jungle" (on the big playground)
  • foraged for blackberries like birds might

Create Art and Water Play- Week 2!

This week exploring art and water we…

  • Made hanging sun catchers with found natural materials

  • Painted with long paint brushes

  • Used chalk on black paper

  • Experimented with wax resist with crayons and watercolors on wood

  • Turned our experiments into hanging art works

  • Played soccer and ring flyer games in the field

  • Had tunnels and and sprinklers out with the pools

  • Wrote recipes books in our mud kitchen and made birthday cakes

  • Wove a colorful spider web based on the story The Spider Weaver

  • Rode tricycles

  • Made up challenges involving running and ducking with the sprinklers

  • Played drip, drip, drop

  • Experimented with containers in the water table

  • Got messy with finger paints

  • Used photo-sensitive paper to make sun prints with leaves and flowers from the garden

Creative Art and Water Play- Week 1!

  • Painted at the easels

  • Made an obstacle course in the field

  • Solved the mystery of who ate the carrots

  • Rode a bus on the playground

  • Made colored playdough with essentials oils

  • Created recycled creations and painted them

  • Ate carrots and spinach from the garden

  • Used loose parts to move water from ramps to buckets

  • Played Mr. Fox in the rain

  • Drew with pastels to make a mural for the classroom

  • Rode tricycles

  • Enjoyed some berry juice popsicles

  • Ran through the sprinkler and splashed in the pools

  • Dug a river and played on the banks of it

  • Built bridges, forts, and playgrounds for animals

  • Constructed a bug city to invite a myriad of insects to our garden

  • Read classic tales like Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk

  • Baked mud pies and cakes in the mud kitchen

  • Played a big group game of soccer

  • Caught ants and spiders and looked at them closely with magnifiers

  • Had popsicles

  • Rode tricycles

  • Wrote and acted out plays
