Supporting Community through Financial Aid

Breakwater is deeply committed to the principle of inclusion. We actively seek to cultivate broad and genuine diversity in our community - diversity of talents, interests, learning profiles, identifications, achievements, ethnicities and economic backgrounds. We strongly believe enrolling a varied and talented group of children and their families benefits all in our school community. Nurturing tomorrow’s successful and innovative impact-makers depends on recruiting and developing a diverse student body today.

We also recognize that paying independent school tuition is a significant financial commitment. In the interest of extending a Breakwater education to as many children as possible, and benefiting all students by increasing socioeconomic diversity within our school, we provide financial assistance to qualified kindergarten through grade 8 students whose families cannot afford the full charges.  

Financial aid is not a loan. It is a financial grant awarded by the School to qualifying applicants. Each year, families receiving financial aid are responsible for contributing at least a minimal amount towards their child’s education. The balance is funded from Breakwater's annual operating budget and through the Annual Fund with events such as the silent auction and benefit concert.

Financial aid is never a consideration in determining a student's eligibility for admission. 

Financial Aid applications for returning families are due by February 9, 2018. Due dates for newly applying families roll with the admissions process. Please note: Demand always exceeds available funds, so it is important to follow procedures carefully and provide all information by this deadline.
