Thankful Thoughts - Newsletter

Dear Preschool Families,

We’ve had a wonderful week reflecting on thankfulness and what makes us happy.  We had tree art outside on Monday and some of us played field games like Mr. Fox and other chasing games. We projected our own drawings on Tuesday morning and giggled with excitement as our imagination and creations became larger on the wall.  We loved having music this week where we discussed our songs for the winter concert and things we’re thankful for. The answers were heartwarming!  On Wednesday, we ventured to a small field next to Breakwater for our Woods Walk and explored with a sensory scavenger hunt.  We touched everything that called to us and used sensory vocabulary while explaining what it felt like.

In the spirit of gratitude, we painted with watercolors on Wednesday and talked about what we are thankful for.  We discussed what made each of us happy and why.  It was fun to see where the preschoolers thoughts went and how they wanted to interpret them.  Some choose to show feelings in color, some represented their words with drawings, and some choose to only share words. We’ve posted all of our words and paintings as a thankful wall in the preschool hallway for all to see!

We were excited by the provocation of new materials in our sensory tables Thursday morning.  Both the Castle and Forest room mixed together ingredients and enjoyed the soft and smooth feeling of what the teachers call Moon Sand. The preschoolers had lots of ideas of how to mix the ingredients and what we could add.  We soaked up the sunshine and watched friendships develop as we created games on the playground and partnered on biking excursions.

On Friday, we were busy with trampoline jumping, bridge building, and playing as much freeze tag as we could.  We ended our week with a beautiful Breakwater moment.  We took an adventure up the stairs to our 3rd and 4th grade buddies classrooms and were given a thankful celebration.  We enjoyed apples while sharing with our buddies what we are thankful for and together we made a thankful book.  We will have it in the classroom to view soon!  We hope that the preschoolers continue to reflect on thankfulness with you over the weekend.  The preschool team is feeling extremely thankful for our community here at Breakwater and especially our preschool families.
