Tinker and Create

Dear Preschool Families,

This weeks weather made for another interesting exploration on our playground. Now we have crunchy, slippy, grains of ice to explore. The children have been reminded of snow cones, and enjoy finding clean chunks to gnaw on or using spray bottles to make giant pretend snow cones. We also tried out sledding and found out the slide is super fast when it is wet with ice.

The children’s play is getting rich and complex. In the play kitchen children are incorporating counting, and phone calls, eating sushi, and packing and laying out festive picnics. Next week we will be setting up a store to extend this play. Yoga is becoming a popular choice as children make up their own poses, and take turns teaching it to others. The sensory tables have been full of different stimulating experiences, such as piles of paper for cutting, flour and playdough, goop (water and cornstarch), and seeds with feathers.

The children continue to stretch their creative minds using recycled materials. Monday’s art studio was a creation station, where children made a variety of things, from cars to torches. Students independently work with recycled materials in the classroom, working with tape, glue, staplers, and hole punchers, to experiment as well as create complex items. We are starting to collect these items and some can be seen on display in the Castle room.

As our schedule has changed slightly, so we can enjoy woods walks with our learning buddies, Wednesday is becoming a community day. We will dedicate this day to learning about our community and the people in it. We will be inviting all of you in to share about your own family traditions or professions.
