Happy New Year! - Newsletter

Dear Preschool Families,

It has been a harmonious start to the year and return to school for our teaching team and preschoolers.  We welcomed with excitement two new friends to preschool, Charlie and Izzy, as well as Liz, our new teacher in the Forest Room!  Our preschool community has been filled with laughter and excitement with some new classroom materials, reconnecting with friends, and the ideas are flowing as we indulge in new projects.

On Tuesday, we investigated our classrooms with wide eyes noticing all of the new tools and provocations.  We were excited when Danielle sang us a new story in music and we requested to borrow her song book for the rest of the week.  Wednesday brought puddles and mud pies as we stomped and shoveled our playground “slush” into piles.  We’re sure you knew this due to the soaked snowpants sent home that day.  It was just too fun to resist the puddles.

On Thursday, the Castle and Forest Room were busy with conversations as provocations like nature-face making (resembling feelings), a car-painting ramp, and letter tracing brought students together.

We welcomed Sari into the preschool classrooms for some morning Tinkering on Friday.  Preschoolers who chose to investigate her materials used tools to make boxes.  The preschoolers were excited to use the tools and we look forward to hosting Sari more in preschool.  It has been too long since we’ve had time with our 3/4 buddies join us for reading and games.  We can’t wait to see them next Friday for more learning activities.  Watching the preschoolers and their buddies connect is a magical time as they share so much excitement for stories and play together each Friday.

This year feels like it’s off to a fantastic start and we can’t wait to see what projects and play we investigate next. Happy New Year and have a restful weekend.

Weekly Questions for Your Child

  • What did you do with the cars in the Forest Room? What colors did you use on the car ramp?

  • What is new in your classroom?

  • Are there new friends in preschool? What are their names?

Coming Up This Week and Reminder!

  • As we embrace the colder days, please have your child's cubby stocked with warm clothes and two pairs of mittens.

  • We ask that all preschoolers come to school with a napping sheet and blanket.  Regardless of their napping routine, each preschooler sets up a mat and relaxes during our Rest Time.  We welcome snuggling items as well.

  • We have enjoyed dressing and taking care of the class baby dolls. The babies don’t have any bottles though! If you have a old bottle in the house or very small baby clothes we would love to have it to help take care of our dolls.

  • There is no school on Friday, January 13.  The teachers are having a professional development day.

  • There will be no school on Monday, January 16 in recognition of Martin Luther King Day.

  • Winter conferences are coming up!  We will be sending out our digital sign-up sheet soon.
