Our Board of Trustees.
We are governed by a Board of Trustees rather than a Board of Directors as “trustee” better captures the custodial function that is appropriate for our school organization. The term connotes positive action, care, and the “trust” to hold our higher purpose.
Our Board of Trustees are the fiduciaries who steer Breakwater towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies that support adequate resources to advance our Mission.
The Board follows the National Association of Independent School's principles of best practice and focuses on three areas critical to the success of any independent school: it selects, evaluates, and supports the Head of School, to whom it delegates authority to manage our school; it develops broad institutional policies that guide the Head in running our school; and it is accountable for the financial well being of our school.
We purposefully comprise Board membership to reflect diverse experience in education, business, health, law, art, entrepreneurship and other areas of expertise. Board members are deeply committed to Breakwater's Mission and values, and are fully engaged in the Breakwater community. We are continually looking for additional trustees who are inspired, excited, invested and offer unique perspectives. Interested parents and members of the broader community are invited to inquire about participation through our Contact Us page.
