Meet Denny Church - Breakwater 5/6 Associate Teacher and Director of Summer Programming

At Breakwater we want for our students to explore the world confident in themselves, with a sense of purpose and compassion, belief in their own agency, and the resilience to embrace mistakes. We affirm the integrity of childhood by placing high value on play, balancing the education of the heart and the mind equally. Breakwater's ability to succeed in this is made possible by a talented, enthusiastic, and loving faculty who live these same aspirations in their everyday lives. Our teachers and staff are recruited and retained based on their professional skills, their willingness to model our mission in every respect, and their commitment to professional and personal growth.

We’d like to introduce you to Denny Church. We celebrate Denny for all the ways he is consistently present, respectful and supportive of his students. His constant enthusiasm for science, the environment, and education make him a highly sought after educator among all members of our Breakwater community. Denny is optimistic and caring - insistent on supporting the whole child - educationally, socially, emotionally and physically. He is enthusiastic about outdoor education, adventure and living well on our planet. He established and maintains our school wide composting efforts. He is the director of our amazing summer programming and is responsible for bringing full day marine science camps to our summer curriculum. Denny is currently working towards bringing a salmon hatchery program to the upstairs of the brick building and coordinates our Student Stewardship Club, a greening and sustainability group. Denny holds a degree in Environmental Conservationism from the University of New Hampshire and has been teaching at Breakwater for five years. Watch the video below to learn more about Denny’s love and commitment to Breakwater and how much he values bringing kids outside, having authentic, educational experiences with children, and how much he loves the community we share.
