Meet Tom Fisher - Breakwater 7/8 Teacher

At Breakwater we want for our students to explore the world confident in themselves, with a sense of purpose and compassion, belief in their own agency, and the resilience to embrace mistakes. We affirm the integrity of childhood by placing high value on play, balancing the education of the heart and the mind equally. Breakwater's ability to succeed in this is made possible by a talented, enthusiastic, and loving faculty who live these same aspirations in their everyday lives. Our teachers and staff are recruited and retained based on their professional skills, their willingness to model our mission in every respect, and their commitment to professional and personal growth.

We’d like to introduce you to Tom Fisher. We celebrate Tom for all the ways he engages thoughtfully with his students and his community. Tom has the unique ability of not only seeing the true potential of every student he has contact with, but also holding them to standards that he knows they can reach - even when the student themselves are unsure. Tom is a supportive and kind teacher, and his students know deeply how much he cares for and believes in them. He will not only find ways to reach and support students when they are challenged, giving them fresh and unique perspectives - he will also find ways to strengthen and further enhance students’ strongest abilities. Tom is an amazing photographer and artist, and also loves to discuss the earth through the lenses of science and mathematics. He is an adventurer, a lover of nature and the mountains, and a strong, fervent advocate for children. Tom holds a B.A. in Geology from Vassar College and has been teaching at Breakwater for twenty-one years. Watch the video below to learn more about Tom’s love and commitment to Breakwater and how much he values challenging students, and helping them find their paths by taking risks and finding success.
